OUGD301 - End of Module Evaluation

The main lesson learned from this module is that it is one huge step up from the second year one that I thought I was ready for but evidently am not. Out of this however comes a positive I am now, all be it very late I  understand how on it so to speak I have to be leading into my FMP. I now realise that I need to start from day one get my ideas down develop them and start designing. I have however been pleasantly surprised with how much I am able to produce when time is not on my side, the last couple of weeks is proof of that. As I reflect on these weeks I am happy because I realise now I can work at the appropriate pace that is required equally I will look back and say if only I had done this from week one what would my work been then then?
Talking of work as I am half happy with the outcome, there are elements of each brief I am proud of but at the same time each of these elements could have been refined and developed further. A prime example is the Commons brief, as an album I am very happy with the visual outcome but at the same time it is just a album I could have done a lot more experimentation and played a lot more with the concept delivering this on a whole range of deliverables. In many ways all I have produced is something pretty with no strong foundations or meat. This is a habit I need to shake off if I am to have a successful FMP. On a more positive note I am at the very least happy I have been able to produce something that works and looks decent.
Moving on to the Fresh Catch brief, this is the one I struggled with the most. I don't feel I produced enough initial ideas and this caught up with me in the end, I understood the content but wasn't sure how go about it. In the end I had a change of direction I didn't feel that a restaurant offered enough print opportunity I wanted to make physical products and the idea of a fishmongers felt a lot more appropriate for my ideas. I could also incorporate my illustration within this without having to make space for them. I found this change of direction helped I was able to bounce a lot more ideas around and in the end i enjoyed the brief. The one brief I am most happy with is he Jazz Key, I think it was driven by my interest in the subject and content. At the start I was a little daunted about taking the project on there are a lot of elements I am not too familiar with such as layout and type. However I embraced this challenge and in the end I feel i developed a successful brand across a range of appropriate deliverables. While producing this brief I also rediscovered the aspects of design I enjoy the most screen printing, and use of stock, this is one thing I need to do more of in the future. All in all I learned the most and enjoyed the most about this brief.
The last of my four briefs was Little white lies, this was a refreshing brake from graphics I really got a chance to play around with illustrative techniques, using lighting and media. I rediscovered another love one I plan to focus on more after christmas simple use of illustration. Although the turn around was rapid for this brief I felt I learned and realised a lot more about my practice and its future direction.
On reflection the last three months has been a difficult time for various reasons, I have had severe moments of doubt but altogether I think I have produce some good work in the end. I now need to draw line under the whole module take the positives, learn the lessons and improve dramatically for my FMP.
