What is design for print: In design workshop.....

Z
In this workshop we focused on setting up illustrator files for commercial printing processes. This starts with the basics setting up a file correctly (bleed and margin).
To the use of spot colour in commercial print, this involves colour separation CMYK and the 5th plate the spot. Below.

Printing from indesign: Workshop.

In this workshop we experimented with various techniques to make our document print closer to the the colour on the screen when transferred to cmyk. Rather than accept the CMYK mode I found the best process was to identify the none printable RGB using the gamut settings and alter these colours using slight changes in hue and saturation to match the colours more closely. Also by replacing colour I could identify more specific areas to change.

InDesign session 4.

We were given a design that had 8 mistakes in its setup based on our gained knowledge over the past sessions we had to identify them in our groups.

1. No bleed at the end of the page.
2. Looking at separation pallet text on back page exceeds colour range.
3. One of the bird pictures has to high a resolution. 5th one down.
4. Third bird down is an RGB image needs to be converted cmyk.
5. Tree not linked to picture.
6. Delete unused swatch colours. To get what i want 5 separate printing plates.
7. Image has been scaled down on Indesign page, this can slow up indesign as it has too many calculations to process. Scaling down should be done before the file goes into Indesign.
8. Mode has to be changed to CMYK on blue background.
